Will Aussie repeat the hat trick? Forecast as of 03.11.2020

Will Aussie repeat the hat trick? Forecast as of 03.11.2020
The second quarter is likely to be the same as the second one. However, the disaster is not going to be so dramatic. If so, we have a pattern to trade the AUDUSD. Let us discuss the Australian dollar outlook and make up a trading plan.

Monthly Australian dollar fundamental analysis

What doesn't kill makes one stronger. The RBA’s monetary expansion should have crashed the Australian dollar. RBA not only cut the cash rate down to the all-time low of 0.1% but also boosted the purchases of assets with a maturity of 5-10 years within QE by AU$100 billion. The RBA has become one of the first to react to the second pandemic wave. However, the AUDUSD, instead of falling, surged up to the bottom of figure 71. Bloomberg experts anticipate such measures of the regulator, and the time for maneuver was not right. It is not wise to ease monetary policy on the day of the US presidential election, is it?
According to Philip Lowe, the increase of the QE size will support economic recovery amid lower costs of funding and exchange rate, as well as higher assets’ price than it would be in the opposite case. RBA must have tried to improve financial conditions, as the Fed did. It was one of the reasons for the US economic growth in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the US GDP should face a downturn because of the difficult epidemiological situation. Australia, on the contrary, has coped with the coronavirus through a strict lockdown in Victoria. So, Australia’s GDP can well go up.

Dynamics of COVID-19 cases in Australia

According to the RBA forecasts, Australia’s GDP in the 2020/2021 financial year will expand by 6%, in 2021/2022 - by another 4%. The forecast for the unemployment peak has been cut from 10% to 8%. The core inflation will grow by 1% in 2021, and by 1.5% in 2022.
In addition to the domestic positive factors, foreign news also supports Aussie. Despite the disputes between Australia and China, which imposed tariffs on Australian barley, launched an anti-dumping investigation into Australian wine, and suspended imports of coal and lobsters from Australia, I believe that the trade relationships will be improved. China is the largest market for Australia. China’s economic growth by 1.9%, according to the IMF forecast, will support the AUDUSD bulls. Based on the yuan price changes, the AUDUSD looks undervalued.

Monthly AUDUSD trading plan

In general, market sentiment indicates that the fourth quarter for the global economy will be similar to the second one, although the disaster scale will be smaller. If so, we have a pattern to trade the Aussie. In late March, I recommended buying the Australian dollar in the range of $0.59-$0.62 amid the expectations of the V-shaped recovery of China’s economy, and this trading idea was winning. Now, there is another chance to repeat the hat trick provided that Joe Biden wins the election.
Biden also promises to attack China for its economic and human rights violations, the US-China relations are going to improve. As a result, the entire Pacific region will benefit. Australia, with its successful COVID-19 strategy, is no exception. If Biden wins, buy the AUDUSD with targets at 0.729 and 0.733.

AUD/USD forecast: Aussie wants to keep the party going

AUD/USD forecast: Aussie wants to keep the party going

Fundamental Australian dollar forecast for today

Are the AUD/USD growth drivers exhausted?

In the second quarter, the Australian economy encountered the deepest downturn since the records started in 1959. Australia’s GDP contracted by 7% Q-o-Q and by 6.3% Y-o-Y. The RBA cut the interest rate to the record lo. The central bank has also bought AU$60 since March amid the QE program. The Aussie should have dropped in value, but the AUD/USD rate has been 32% up since the low hit in March. Doesn’t the major rule of the fundamental analysis “strong economy – strong currency” work here? Now, it perfectly works! The matter is that everything is relative in Forex!
A drop by 6.3% in Australian growth is nothing compared to the US GDP contraction by 32%. AUS$60 billion is very little compared with the trillions of dollars in the USA. In Australia, there are less than 30,000 of coronavirus cases, while there are more than six million of COVID-19 cases in the USA. Australia has managed the pandemic better than many other advanced economies, the economy is not critically weak, the RBA yield control policy allows it not to waste the monetary tools. Besides, China supports Australia’s foreign trade.

Dynamics of RBA interest rate and the Australian dollar exchange rate

Source: Bloomberg
China is the largest market for Australian exports. Although the diplomatic relations between the two countries are tense, after Canberra accused China of COVID-19 laboratory origins, the trade relations are good. Since the beginning of the year, Australia’s exports to China have increased by 75% compared to the same period in 2016, when the last official meeting of the countries’ leaders took place. The core of the China-Australia trade is iron ore. Over the past twelve months, China has imported 700 million tons of iron ore from Australia. It is twice as much as it was in 2010 when the diplomatic relations between Australia and China were much better.

Therefore, the AUD/USD uptrend is strong for several reasons. Australia’s economy is stronger compared to others, China supports Australia’s foreign trade, the Fed’s monetary expansion is unprecedented, which weakens the US dollar. The matter is whether the major bullish drivers have exhausted? Will the Aussie continue its rally?
The analysts polled by Reuters believe the AUD/USD uptrend should slow down. The see the pair trading at 0.72 in one and three months. In six and twelve months, the exchange rate will be at 0.73 and 0.74, accordingly. These levels are close to the current one, which suggests a long consolidation period. In my opinion, it is still relevant to buy the Aussie. China has averted a new round of trade war with the US. The Australian government is working on the income tax reduction bill, which should support GDP growth. The greenback’s’ long-term outlook remains bearish. So, I recommend entering the AUD/USD longs if Australia’s job report for August is positive. The middle-term targets are at 0.75 and 0.763.

Issues with Forex transfers to overseas crypto markets

Hi guys,
Does anyone else use forex transfers to overseas crypto markets? I've tried transferring large sums in USD to BitStamp and I've been rejected by a number of forex companies.
*TorFX - disabled my account completely. On emailing them to ask why and explaining that I also require forex to my EU bank account, they offered some paltry response which inferred that I was some kind of criminal by using crypto.
*WorldFirst - stated they don't accept payments destined for crypto exchanges
*OFX - won't touch crypto exchanges
*CurrencyFair - won't transfer to crypto exchanges
I find this absurd. This is my money which I've attained via legal means and has been taxed. I can appreciate that there may be some potential clients who could use the service for nefarious means, but if the forex business has done their due diligence by checking my government documentation and ID, then it's up to the Federal Government to chase down illegal activity, not forex businesses.
Has anyone successfully used a forex service to transfer AUD to USD/EUR on foreign crypto exchanges?

Australian Dollar Could Struggle With RBA Rate Call, GDP Figures

Australian Dollar Could Struggle With RBA Rate Call, GDP Figures
Australian Dollar Could Struggle With RBA Rate Call, GDP Figures

  • The Reserve Bank of Australia is thought unlikely to cut rates, but is likely to sound dovish
  • Australian growth figures may well disappoint given business investment weakness
  • Bullish trade headlines might negate both and boost the Aussie, but they’re unpredictable
Find out what retail foreign exchange traders make of the Australian Dollar’s prospects right now, in real time, at the DailyFX Sentiment Page
In the coming week Australian Dollar markets might just be able to look past the US-China trade story, at least for a while, as they contemplate a packed period of local economic news. Whether this will be good news for the currency’s bulls, however, is a very open question.
Out on front of course will be Tuesday’s monetary policy decision from the Reserve Bank of Australia. Market positioning is at present quite emphatic that no move is coming, and the Official Cash Rate will remain at its record, 0.75% low once the central bank’s deliberations are over. However, the RBA itself conceded in the minutes of its last meeting that the case for an interest rate cut could be made then, an admission which knocked the Aussie earlier this month. Given that little has clearly changed for the better since, the chance of a cut on Tuesday must still be ‘live’ even given those market doubts.

Interest rates on cash in Australia is 4.5%, but how does a US Citizen go about opening a savings account in AUD?

Just dawned on me that I have no idea how that works, as I obviously can't deposit AUD into my USD savings account. Do I need to open an account in Australia? Can I do this entirely online? Maybe there is some global bank I can use for this?
Note: I am not asking if it's a good investment option, just wondering how I would do this if I were so inclined.

Moving Money Internationally - A case study

Hi guys,
Maybe a week ago I posted here asking for advice on how to move my house deposit to the USA from Australia. Most of the advice I received was to look into bitcoins. I posted there as well and based on more advice made there conducted my investigation and figured I would share my case study with you guys so people also running into this problem might have somewhere to start. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE THIS AS FINANCIAL ADVICE. The numbers I quote here are wrong from pretty much the moment I post this, and obviously my bank is not every bank, etc...
So, the three options I investigated were bitcoins, a forex website and my bank. For the case studies purpose I will be looking to move a hypothetical 50k AUD to USD, at the moment google quotes the exchange rate as 1AUD=0.89USD. In my circumstance, I wanted to move the money in only one transaction, moving in it multiple chunks was a deal breaker.
Option 1. Bank: The simple choice given at first I was worried about the money getting frozen on the way if one or either banks got upset at such a large amount of money moving. Discussion with the bank on the american side revealed they pretty much don't give a shit. I would need to talk to the bank on the aussie side to move such a large amount in one go (my account was set at maximum transaction limit of $5000 a day).
The maths: My bank would do an international telegraphic transfer for $20 online, seems quite good until you look at their conversion rate (at the time of writing 0.8523)
50000-20=49980 -> 42622.94USD
Option 2: Forex. I signed up with a forex website that looked like it offered good rates. After registering online I received a phone call in about 20min to confirm my identity and check some details. Process involves me arranging a deal online, shifting my money to their bank account in Australia and they do the exchange and send it overseas for me to my nominated bank account. Again I would need to speak to my bank to arrange such a large transfer due to my limits but that portion shouldn't be any trouble.
Great for me, transactions above 10kAUD had no transaction fees ($15AUD otherwise), only the price that they sell the USD to you and that price gets better the more money you transfer. Basically, their only fee is the money you lose by not getting the USD's true price. And their prices were very good after playing with the calculators a bit. Putting in 50kAUD now nets me a lovely buy price of 0.8852USD. Lowering that amount lowers the buy price, raising it raises the buy price. Even so, low buy prices were better than the banks.
50000-15=49985 -> 44246.72USD
Option 3. Bitcoin. As someone who has never used bitcoins before, and never really even looked into it other than understanding what mining is, this is obviously an option that requires a lot of research and setting up on my part. That said, as far as I understood the process it would initially require me to buy 50kAUD worth of bitcoins, transfer to a US wallet for a small fee then sell again. Hence there will likely be loss AUD - Bitcoin transaction (not getting 50k worth of bitcoin for true AUD value) the transfer fee and likely a loss on the US side (not selling all the bitcoin for their true value in USD) just like exchanging money.
I looked at the australia bitcoin website bitXoin - fee 3.7% plus the buying price of bitcoins. My 50K has shrunk to a 483500AUD just from that fee - not looking good. BitCoinTrader next - 5% fee for conversion of AUD to bitcoin. LocalBitcoins violates my rule of doing it in only one transaction so I discarded that option as you have to buy 50kAUD worth of bitcoins off several people most likely.
Going back to BitXoin what would happen if I followed through? At this moment they have 1BTC valued as 1179.96AUD so my 50k (-3.7%) buys me 40.9759652BTC (I have no idea how many decimal places BTC goes to but that should give us a rough idea of the final amounts). Let assume a fee of 0.001BTC (which works out to be about 1AUD) to transfer, I now have 40.9749652BTC in my US wallet.
Next step, sell for USD. Coinbase at this moment have a sell price of 896.67USD which seemed really low! This would mean my BTC would net me 36741USD!!?? BC changer offers 1017.59USD which still only gets me 41695USD!!
Basically, with bitcoin, you will get attacked by buy and sell prices on both ends of the transaction, rather than just one. Next to fluctuations if the price changes which could go well or go badly, your risk. Bitcoin is most definitely not an option in this case study to move money. It may be an option if you already have bitcoins though, because then you only get scrapped on the sell price.
In this situation, even the bank out performed Bitcoins. In real life, I made the choice to go with forex.
TL;DR - Bitcoins are not a viable option in this case study for transferring money from AUD to USD. If you already have bitcoins might be worthwhile but was not considered. Do the maths on it yourself.

Dollar weakens, yen at October highs after US stocks slide

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 72%. (I'm a bot)
The dollar index, a gauge of its value against six major currencies, fell 0.31 percent to 95.21 on Thursday, after hitting a high of 95.79 in the previous session.
"In an environment where people are concerned about rising volatility, the dollar tends to do well - especially versus higher-risk currencies such as the Aussie and Canadian dollar," said Stuart Ritson, head of Asian rates & foreign exchange at Aviva Investors.
The pound has gained more than 2 percent versus the dollar over the last five trading sessions.
The Canadian Dollar was changing hands at 1.3048, not far off its October low of 1.3069 versus the dollar hit on Wednesday.
The Australian dollar, often viewed as a gauge of global risk appetite, traded at 0.7078, up 0.25 percent on Thursday.
The New Zealand's dollar traded at 0.6476, above its multiyear low of 0.6422 seen on Monday.

Fees for thought (x-post from /r/Neotrader)

Hi guys,
Long time lurker and just wanted to bring more awareness to the impact that fees have on the purchase price and potential gains/losses. This is particularly relevant to us Aussies with the impact of foreign exchange, may apply to other non-US countries as well. I’ll go through a comparison to illustrate some of the impacts (YMMV). Data from currency, exchanges and price obtained roughly at the same time.
A comparison between three scenarios is as follows:   1. Directly purchasing NEO on Coinspot 2. Purchase Bitcoins with $1,000 AUD on Coinspot, transfer to Binance, purchase NEO on Binance. 3. Purchase Bitcoins with $750 USD on Bittrex, transfer to Binance, purchase on Binance.
Scenario 1: Using Coinspot - Start with $1,000 AUD   - NEO price in AUD (Coinspot): $62 - Formula of 3% purchasing fee: [ ( $1,000 / $62 ) – ( $1,000 / $62 x 1.03) ] x $62 = $29.13 - Actual NEO price in AUD: $63.86 - Approx NEO units: $1,000 / $63.86 = 15.659255 - NEO withdrawal fee: 0.10 - Net cost AUD: $35.52   Scenario 2: Purchase Bitcoins with $1,000 AUD, transfer to Binance, purchase NEO on Binance.   - Bitcoin price in AUD (Coinspot): $5,957 - Formula of 2% purchasing fee: [ ( $1,000 / $5,957) – ( $1,000 / $5,957 x 1.02) ] x $5,957 = $19.61 - Actual price purchased: $6,076 - Approx BTC units: $1,000 / $6,076 = 0.16457817 - BTC withdrawal fee (Coinspot): 0.0005 - Remaining BTC units: 0.16407817 - NEO price in BTC (Binance): 0.010382 - Transaction fee: Nil at the moment - Approx NEO units: 15.804100 - Actual NEO price in AUD: $63.27 - NEO withdrawal fee: Nil at the moment - Net cost AUD: $22.65   Scenario 3: Purchase Bitcoins with $750 USD ($1,000 AUD) on Bittrex, purchase NEO on Binance.   - AUD / USD Exchange rate (AusPost): 0.75 - Bitcoin price in USD: $4,378 - Purchasing fee (not confirmed): 0.25% or $2.50 - Approx BTC units: 0.17074006 - BTC Bittrex withdrawal fee (Reddit): 0.001 - Remaining BTC units: 0.16974006 - NEO price in BTC (Binance): 0.010382 - Transaction fee: Nil at the moment - Approx NEO units: 16.349457 - Actual NEO price in AUD: $61.16 - NEO withdrawal fee: Nil at the moment - Net cost AUD: $14.59   Summary points:   - Comparing scenario 1 and 3 - if you were in scenario 1 and wanted to purchase the equivalent amount of units in scenario 3, you would need the price to rise from $63.86 to $66.67 (about 4.4%).   - You can also purchase NEO on Bittrex which may be cheaper than Binance depending on the buy/sell spread, withdrawal and transaction costs and then you may transfer it to a wallet.   - Why Binance? At the time of this post, there are no transaction/withdrawal costs and holding NEO on the exchange also generates GAS as well as having a BTC / GAS market.   - Scenario 1: There are some implicit costs not mentioned – Forex rate (0.73 vs 0.75, about 2%), purchase price (buy/sell spread $5,957 vs $5,837 about 2%), opportunity cost of comparing against scenario 3 (4.4%).   - Scenario 2: Basically less costs than option 1 but skips obtaining USD.   - Scenario 3: This has preliminary steps to obtain a USD bank account in your location and FOREX costs which may increase the net fee.   - This is not a recommendation of which exchanges to use, but an exercise to show the differences of the effects of fees/costs and to manage your costs if trading which can accumulate quite rapidly.
Feel free to comment if you have any questions or comments. If this has helped you out by giving you ideas about different ways of purchasing NEO or saved you money, please consider tipping GAS: AWQsn9Jn67b2pcBPpqogMniy6cUHvgZHtr

I sent this letter to the Sydney Morning Herald. It wasn't published. It's about the effect of the high Australian Dollar on jobs.

The higher the Australian dollar goes, the less need we have to employ low paid workers. While the high Aussie may benefit rich people traveling overseas, it means unemployment and uncertainty for those on lower incomes.
Unlike many nations, Australia has a floating exchange rate - its value is supposedly set by the forex market. The government and the reserve bank tend to stay away from interfering in it. But this is not the case with many of the world's important currencies. Japan, China, Switzerland and Singapore - to name just four - actively interfere in the forex market in order to benefit their export industries. For countries like Australia this means that our high dollar is less the result of market forces and more the result of economic policy by foreign governments.
In short it is a form of Mercantilism.
The result of this so called "floating" exchange rate over the years has been a perpetually high current account deficit. This means that Australia has been borrowing more than it has earned for decades. At the local level, this had led to a drying up of industries which rely upon low and unskilled labour. An entire generation of unskilled people now only have the option of living on welfare rather than working in order to support themselves. And all this because we have embraced a floating exchange rate and are at the behest of foreign governments who look after their own export industries.
Well it's time things changed. Either we slap import restrictions on these countries or else we actively manipulate our exchange rate and control the value of our currency. The guiding principle behind this would be to maintain a balanced current account and would be the responsibility of the Reserve Bank or some other entity that answers to government and the people. This would ensure that our export industries would be protected while simultaneously preventing us from treating other nations in the way they treat us.
